4Fantastic, sturdy, and Tons of fun
By Jonathan Pierce
I did a fair amount of research to figure out which pitchback to get for my 6 and 4 year old boys. I decided that I wanted the following features:1) Durable. I have 3 boys (ages 2, 4 and 6) and I want it to last for years to come. This includes the frame, the net, and the bungees that hold the net to the frame.2) Large net surface. This is so that young kids who's aim is still developing wouldn't be too much of an issue.3) Adjustable. This means that the whole surface of the pitchback can be used for a return throw (line drive or pop ups), or it could have the top part straight up and down which results in a grounder back to the thrower and is also 2-sided so that two can use at the same time.4) Collapsible. These things are big so considering how to store them is important.5) Replaceable net. If the net rips, I didn't want the whole thing to be worthless.6) Weather-proof. We're bound to leave this outside in all kinds of weather.7) Heavy enough to work on pavement or grass without needing stakes. Some of the ones that I read about needed to be staked down when in use or they'd fall over after getting hit with a ball. After looking at several options online, I went with this one despite not being able to find any reviews of the product. None of the other ones that I found appeared to fit all of my criteria. We've only had it for a long weekend so far, but it got plenty of use on our driveway and appears to be a great product that has all the features above. Of course only time will tell if it's durable and and weather proof it is. The frame and all the metal components are aluminum so it should fare well outside. My only complaint so far, and the reason that I didn't give it 5 stars, is that one of the hinges, which are pretty substantial and look like they will last just fine, appears to be slightly bent. I'm not sure if it came like that, if it got bent during assembly, or if it got bent during use. The sidewall of the hinge apparatus should have been designed to be a bit thicker and then this likely would not be a problem. But overall, it's is very well designed, and is a sturdy pitchback that should last a long time. It's easy to adjust into the different positions. The net surface is plenty big. If it was any bigger, the pitchback would be a bit unwieldy to move around. It collapses very easily into a flat configuration that is half the size of the pitchback. That will be a key feature for winter storage.AssemblyAdult assembly is definitely required. It took about 20 minutes with most of the time spent attaching the net to the frame. Attaching the net was a bit difficult as it is a pretty tight fit. I consider it a two person job with one holding the net and one attaching the bungee. Once we figured out the best way to do it, it went pretty quickly. In the end, it's good that it is tight fit of course since a taut net makes the ball bounce back better.UseWe've only had this for a long weekend, but it got plenty of use! The kids and I absolutely love it. Our neighbors on both sides of us enjoyed it too to the point that I won't be surprised if there are 2 more of these in our neighborhood very soon! We used it on the driveway and it didn't budge even when I was throwing a baseball at it pretty hard. It does come with ground stakes but we didn't use them. It's 2-sided if the top part is straight up and down so more than one can play with it at the same time. I can already see a difference in the throwing and catching ability of my 6 year old.You will not be disappointed with this one out of the box at all. I can't really report on durability yet, but it looks like it's about as durable as you'd hope for in a pitchback.

5Grandson loves this!
By Teresa Valentine
My 8 year old grandson loves this! We gave it to him for Christmas. He has spent a lot of time playing with it. He's an only child and this is the 1st item we've bought him something that he really/really enjoys playing by himself, and it's making his catching so much better. We are looking forward to baseball season to see how much better he is than last year! Seems very well made. I'm sure he will get many months/years of use out of this.
