4Easy Install - Quick Customer Service
By J. Thomas
At first the installation of these seems a little daunting, since I never did one before, but was pretty simple to complete. The mounting of the hardware was a breeze; it was actually getting all the parts into the cabinet with the pole in the center that was more of a puzzle. Thankfully our cabinets had some extra space on the sides that made this easier but I do see how a tight cabinet would potentially make this tricky. I got two of these and one was missing a part. The company very quickly sent out a replacement part. The other part to note is that the instructions, from the manufacture inform you to utilize the template; yet there is no template in the box. I was informed that this was a misprint for the 28" full circle models.

5Good choice...sturdy
By oh2az
Nice product, just ordered my 2nd one. The only problem is the assembly intructions are awful. However, if you keep staring at it long enough you will figure it out and it is pretty easy to install.

4The best 6x8 speakers the world will ever know
By CrunchyCookie
What's a guy doing reviewing 2005-year speakers at the dawn of 2011? Simple: Infinity made me buy these. In my research, I discovered that sometime in 2006, some idiots at Infinity made the baffling decision to lower the impedance of all their speakers from 4 ohms to 2 -- a total head-scratcher considering the entire aftermarket car stereo industry has long set the standard at 4. Infinity claims that its speakers are still safe to use with any stereo, but the owner's manual of my Pioneer makes an explicit contradiction, instructing NOT to hook up speakers with less than 4 ohms. I decided to place more faith in Pioneer's words, so instead of buying Infinity's current model 6x8s (the 6832CF), I had to scrounge around the Internet for worn used copies of these long-forgotten units. The end result: an unwanted compromise from my perspective and lost revenue from Infinity's. Lose-Lose.But oh well, I'm happy with what I've got. I've known since the 90s that Infinity speakers have the best sound around (though Pioneer and Polk come close), and that's certainly true of these: crystal clear trebles, sharp midrange, good specs (60 RMS watts, 49-21,000 Hz frequency response, 92 dB sensitivity), and an overall punchy, lively feel to the soundstage no matter what the source. Bass is only average (weaker, in fact, than the factory speakers they replaced in my Mazda 3), but there are no real negatives. The adjustable rotating tweeter is a nice touch. My only wish is that Infinity come back to it senses, so the next time I buy a car I won't have to be hunting for what will by then be decade-old speakers.

4Great for the money and a safe bet
By L. Olvera
I put these into my work truck a 2002 Ford Ranger. Accompanied them with a ported balfle and a cheap JVC deck power. They sounded nice and clear with good bass reponse and crisp highs. Latter I added an Amp 75 x4 to each of them and they realy came alive. They can't take that much power so Im only running the amp and half power. The only down fall is that the highs are a bit sharper then the infintys in the past but that can be mitigated by so many things its not a real issue. All and All a good safe choice for anyone who just wants good sound. Great for the money and not bad for a work truck.

5Great HP printer with networking built in.
By G. Ware
I had bought a HP 1020 to replace my old HP 895cse. I had run my 895cse through a Netgear USB print server. After buying the 1020 I found out that it was not compatible with USB print servers. I tried it on the Netgear and a Linksys product and both became unavailable after powering up the printer. You could see the print server until the printer was powered up and then the print server was unreachable.I was impressed with the 1020 so I wanted to stay with the printer but without the ability to network it was not usefull. I looked into network printer options and came across the 1022N. Basically the same printer as the 1020 with more memory, more pages per minute, and a built in 10/100 print server. The printer is very compact, is well built, and setup on the network was a snap. The printer is a little pricey but for a nice home network laser printer it's not too bad.I would recommend it for anyone looking for a nice home printer that allows for easy networking.

4Plug n Play Printing!
By wenfei
This printer took all of 8 minutes to install. Plugged it into my Linksys WRT54G 10/100 port and ran the software on my Win2K PC. Software installed, printer found on the network, and test page printed in less than 8 secs! HP has a good support page for the printer with links to software, firmware, and drivers. Hold down the GO button for 5 secs and the printer prints a configuration page with current firmware level and default settings. Printer properties can be adjusted easily through the Operating system printer properties page or through the 1022n's web page hosted through its internal server. You can reach it by browsing to its IP address on your local network. I haven't seen the problem with it losing connectivity on the network yet and it has been up for about 2 days. I will update if I run into the problem. The printer can also function on your network with a preset IP address instead of getting one from your router/gateway. This may enable it to stay connected more consistently. Just a thought...[update 7-2-07] So far, I have had no problems with the printer. It is stable on the network and I can print from a variety of computers connected to my wireless router. It is nice not having to have a dedicated computer as a print server. It has been almost a month since I bought it and my inkjet would have been out of ink by now. :)[update 3-17-08] This workhorse is still going strong. In economode, the cartridge lasts pretty long. I just changed the cartridge last month, but I stuck to HP branded toner. Let us know if you've had good experience with other refills.

2Not network friendly
By Rag Man
We chose this printer because of the network capability. The first printer stopped functioning correctly after three weeks. To print, we had to turn the printer off, then back on, and then print. We had to do this every time we wanted to print. HP sent us a replacement printer, and it worked correctly for 4 days. After over an hour on the phone with HP, I was told the printer is not very stable in a network application, and we should use the printer via a USB connection. If HP knows the unit is not stable in a network environment, then HP should correct the problem, or stop selling the unit.

5UNBELIEVABLE VALUE, QUALITY AND LONG-TERM INVESTMENT
By Cameron Monti
I purchased my HP 1020 laser printer at Office Depot for $129.99. This was a good bargain even compared to online shopping prices. I know that if you are patient, and you perform a bit of due diligence, you can get this printer "new, never opened, and unrefurbished" on eBay for around $100-120 (I know this because I bought a secnod one as a Christmas present for $105 on eBay). Note however, it does not come with a 2.0 cable - so you will have to buy one to connect it to your computer ($25 in the retail stores and $5-7 on eBay). I am one of those shoppers that "does his homework" before making purchases. I was buying this to replace my miserable Brother HL-1440. I say miserable despite its generally good ratings because the poor LONG-TERM value of this printer clearly outweighed the initial features. What I mean by this is that the Brother requires not only the replacement of a toner cartridge at, what $60 per shot? But also, an EXPENSIVE DRUM every 4-5 toner cartridges. The drum alone cost about $130!! You might as well buy a new laser printer - which I DID. Printer manufactureres are like drug dealers in a way- they sell the printer itself for cheap to lure you in...the hit you hard when it comes to the cartridges (and/or drum). The beauty of the HP-1020 is that it is very inexpensive, efficient, blazing fast (as advertised - 353% faster) from the time you click "print" to when the printer actually spits our your document (about 4-5 seconds) even when the printer is not "warm." Also, THIS PRINTER DOES NOT REQUIRE A DRUM REPLACEMENT. The cartridges cost $70 if you pay full price, but I found new, original HP nonrefurbished cartridges for $55 (including the shipping cost) - never buy them in a store, always buy online from a reputable retailer like "New Egg".Anyway, this prints very clean documents, and set-up could not be easier, even for a non-techie. I actually set this printer up on my home network so my wife could print from her (wireless internet connection) laptop, directly to the HP-1020 which I connected to my desktop computer. It is pretty cool.FREE ADVICE: Don't listen to the untrained computer store high schoolers help who tell you (or me) that you need a network enabled printer to set up a network printer whereby you can share the printer with other computers or laptops on your network - you DON'T. Just search online for directions on how to set it up (and make sure your firewalls are DISABLED on all computers to add the new printer - you will know what I'm talking about once you try to set it up).As for the specs of the HP-1020, don't let the 600x600 dpi mislead you. It prints equally as well if not better than as those "1200 x 1200" dpi printers - you will NOT be able to see a difference. If you can think you can, set up an appoinment with your optomotrist. In other words, why waste away your hard-earned $$$, which can be as much as an extra $50-100, just for useless specs that do not represent the true and actual print quality of documents you will receive? Put that $$$ towards a back-up toner cartridge. Besides, Hewlett-Packard utilizes some sort of "dpi enhancement" on the HL-1020 to maximize its 600x600 dpi to give you a 1200x1200 type print quality. There was a newer model, i.e., HP-1022 with "better" dpi specs and more memory (8mb versus 2mb on the HP-1020). Again, don't let this mislead you into paying more than you have to. The memory supplied in the HP-1020 is PLENTY. Trust me, I am one of those guys that always wants the "best AND MOST features" on electronics - so if I thought it was necessary, I would have purchased the HP-1022.The funny thing is, every time I would print on my old Brother HL-1440, my computer would ALWAYS give me an irritiating "not enough memory"-type pop-up everytime I printed, despite the fact I had over 24 MB of memory in the printer itself! NOT ANYMORE! This HL-1020 printer works flawlessly with 2 mb of memory. Also, if you are thinking about buying the HP-1022, the ratings I've seen online as not nearly as good as the HP-1020. In fact, the HP-1020 has received nearly perfect 5-star ratings from about 12-15 reviewers I've seen on the internet from different review websites. Plus, the HL-1022 costs about $70 more! For what?In sum, I would HIGHLY recommend the HL-1020 printer for home or even small business use. It's truly a value, and you will not go broke once you get through the first toner cartridge. Thus, TWO thumbs up and FIVE stars. Oh by the way, I did look at other brands, HP seemed to be favored over others in reliability, quality, etc.I hope this helps your shopping decision.

5Solid printer
By Clementine Churchill
I have a model 1012 at work and liked it so much I bought a 1020 for home (the 1012 was unavailable at the time.) They are virtually the same machine. I have found these to be easy to use and pretty fast printers. I like the manual paper feed slot and use it often for envelopes and labels. And, unlike Golden Comet, who either has a dozen printers at home or is in HP Marketing writing advertisements disguised as reviews, I am a regular customer with no bias towards or against HP products.

5Small but powerful
By Electronic Gadgetphile
I bought this for use with my new Mac mini and was surprised to find that HP does not have any Mac drivers for the LJ 1020. (In the spirit of full disclosure, the box does list only Windows systems under the minimum systems requirements - I just didn't look since it did not occur to me that they would not have Mac drivers) I traded e-mails with HP and they indicated that I should return the unit for a refund since it was not designed to be Mac compatable. I then Googled a bit and found out that users were having success with the LJ 1022 drivers (as Amazon Lover indicates here) so I tried these and it worked like a charm. (December 2006 Update - It seems HP has updated the drivers on their website to delete functionality of the 1020 using the 1022 drivers. Not to worry - just Google HP 1020 Mac OSX and it will bring up sites that have the old drivers). I really don't know why HP Tech Support wouldn't know this. I like the unit as it has a small footprint on my desk, starts up fast, has excellent print resolution and a good capacity for the paper tray. I replaced an aging HP LaserJet 5P at about one quarter the cost and am very pleased with the unit.

4ok, the usb port issue
By Y. Kwon
The Good:- super fast printing- almost perfect print output (super dark black & wide range of greys)- compact size, won't overwhelm your desk- connects by USB portThe Bad:- noisy when printing (whirring motor)- manual feed holds only a few sheets or a couple of envelopes- usb port issues (this can be fixed, see below)- connects by USB port and nothing elseThis laser printer is the best value for its performance and output. I had a LaserJet 6P which is a dinosaur now, still works perfect but doesn't understand PostScript3. I got tired of printing Japanese text by first having to make a pdf and then print. Now I can print directly to the printer. The text is near perfect on a scale of 1-5, i'd say 4.5. Unless you are going to buy a $600 Ricoh, you should really consider this printer solely based on its speed and text output. Even compared to other $300 models, this printer can hold its own and may even be better in some cases. It is kind of noisy when it prints- a deep whirring noise - it's bearable but should be mentioned. The manual feed can only hold a thin amount which could be a problem for some people who are going to be printing onto a lot of envelopes. And unfortunately you can't load envelopes into the main compartment. Also the actual printing of envelopes can be annoying, you have to press the button on the printer before it prints any envelopes and you have to do it for each single one - there might be a way around this but I haven't figured it out yet.The USB issue:yes, HP tech support can be frustrating as with any company. But my experience wasn't as horrible as others here have had. I received two follow up phone calls, even one from an HP technical engineer about this usb issue::through trial & error, here is what I did to make it work:If you are having problems connecting the USB printer to your computer, i.e. WinXP won't recognize the printer, you need to disable the USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller. For some reason, on some computers running WinXP, the USB printer port is recognized as an "Unknown Device." It affects any USB port, doesn't matter if it's USB 2.0 w/Firewire or an older port. It can be fixed easily with a little tweak. I'm sure a lot of people have returned the printer b/c they thought they couldn't print or it was incompatible. Not everything works perfectly straight out of the box, what fun would that be?...You may also have the same problem if you plan to connect the printer to a router or print server. I have a wireless Linksys Print Server and it does not recognize the USB printer. I have asked Linksys to update their Firmware. When it will happen? who knows.Keep in mind this is a brand new model for HP and issues will arise they may not have the needed tech support yet. Notwithstanding, for this price and excellent output, I think it's worth it.

4smooth operator (for a while, anyway)
By John D. Hearn
I have had my 1022 for about 9 months now, and have yet to have any sort of problems and I'll never buy another inkjet. It prints quickly, and while it lacks a duplex unit, the driver does support a sort of make-shift duplex printing. Select double sided printing, and print. It prints one side of all pages, then you can put the stack back in the printer without changing the orientation and hit one button on the printer to print the opposite sides. No need to remember how to manually print alternate pages in reverse order and so forth...saves me so much ink and paper. (This works on my mac. I assume it also works on windoze.)Also, I would like to point out I have printed over a ream of paper and haven't needed a new cartidge and have no signs of ink shortage.---Update---I have now had this printer for close to 4 years, so I thought I would update the review. For the past two years, I've been using the printer substantially less. (I am no longer a student and don't have frequent need to print things.) I am still on the first print cartridge, and am most of the way through what is probably my third ream of paper since purchasing the printer. The printer still works for most things, but it has developed some problems.* For some reason, ink seems to stick too long on the barrel, so I get text ghosting on the page, i.e. text at the top of the page gets printed faintly again halfway down the page, on top of whatever text is supposed to be there. This isn't bad enough to cause difficulty reading, but doesn't look very professional. I can no longer use the printer for things like resumes.* Sometimes i I haven't printed anything in a while, the printer puts out a puff of smoke after ech printed page. This isn't a problem with functionality, per se, but is sort of worrisome and makes me think the printer wont last too much longer.* With OS X 10.5, printing over Airport no longer works properly. I'm more inclined to blame Apple than HP for this, but neither company seems inclined to do anything about it at this point. I now need to physically connect the printer to my laptop with a USB cable, which is somewhat annoying.* There doesn't seem to be any channel for having the printer repaired or doing self maintenance. I'm sure *someone* can fix it, but likely at more than the cost of a new printer. Again, we are back to the sad situation of printers being sold as throw-away products. I will probably have to buy a new printer to replace this one, even though this one should meet my needs.Overall, I still think this printer is a much better purchase than an InkJet, but I would lower my rating to 3 stars because HP apparently follows a design philosophy of planned obsolescence, even with their LaserJets. I'd like to find something that is designed to last a bit longer without having to buy a huge, high-dollar office printer. For comparison, many Apple LaserWriters (produced 1985-88) are still operational. They just don't build them like they used to.

5It works for us.
By P. M. Gross
Running Windows XP; SP2; on a single Gateway Profile computer. Microsoft Office 2003.I read earlier reviews and it would appear that this printer either works for you and gets 5 stars, or doesn't work and gets 1 star. There is little in between. We bought it about three months ago as a replacement for an old HP 4P that finally died. The difference is remarkable. The 1022 installed quickly (USB); has a small footprint; prints the first page of a job very quickly; is fast; relatively quiet; prints cleanly; handles paper well; does envelopes (one at a time). But I would stress that we use it lightly, perhaps a few pages a day and I can't comment on how it would stand up under very heavy use.Note that a new cartridge is about 1/3 of the cost of an entire new printer.Still, we recommend it.

5Great undersink compost bin
By Makabe
This is a wonderful bin for compost, with the following caveats: you really need to clean out the bin at least once a week with soapy water--it won't clean itself. This bin really only works on frameless cabinets--there is no way to mount it on framed cabinets. Ours has been working perfectly for over 5 years, and everybody who sees it wants to know where we got it.
