5Great product for emergencies
By J. Johnsen
The GenTran unit was installed by my electrician. In addition to the 6 positions there are two blanks to which he added breakers for a total of 8. This 30 amp model was custom built for generators with the 3 prong 30 amp plug configuration like my Honda 3000is. Now we can select which rooms to power in the event of a prolonged outage. I highly recommend this product.

1Not a 30 AMP panel!
By jbohl
GenTran is pushing the classification of 30 AMP on this product. Please note, it is NOT a 2-Pole 30 AMP Generator Panel! It is a 2-Pole 20 AMP Generator Panel meant for a Single-Pole 30 AMP Generator. You cannot connect 2 circuits that share a neutral to the Generator, or a 240-Volt appliance! This was not listed accurately in the product description or specifications at the time of purchase. To find this out, you would have to do extensive product research, or like me, and order the product to find the "wrong product shipped," return it for exchange, to then receive the same product and pull the spec manual out and read through it.Electricians - please be sure you are ordering the right panel, if ordering this panel!Non-Electricians - please check with your electrician BEFORE ordering this panel. It is a single-phase 120-volt 30 AMP max rated panel. If you have a single phase 240-volt 30 AMP Generator, this panel will undercut the actual capacity of your generator by 10 AMPs each phase.

5A brilliant solution for emergency power needs
By kix66
After putting together a crude system to power a few circuits from our emergency gasoline generator when the power goes out, an electrician suggested using this switch instead. It is inexpensive, easy to install, creates empty breaker space in the main power panel, and it's approved by insurance companies if there's ever a fire in the building. The design is simple and the panel uses easy-to-find name-brand breakers available at local box stores. The convenience and function of this simple switch will pay for itself in time, increase the value of the property, and I'm not worried that we may lose power anymore. Very happy with this product.
