5most stylish sunglasses I've ever worn
By StevieQ
These are the most expensive sunglasses I've ever worn or owned. The memory metal Flexon frame added about $70 over the cost of comparable stainless steel styles or about $30 over titanium frames. Unless you're the type that abuses the frames, Flexon is mostly an unnecessary expense. Also Flexon is no longer the most flexible memory metal frame available. Flexon is no match for its new competitor, EasyTwist, which currently is available only from eye care professionals. EasyTwist can be twisted like noodles and spring back to original shape in a way that no Flexon frames can do. Glass can shatter and is also a potential serious safety hazard, but the risk is very small for everyday wear, unless you engage in sports activity. I like glass lenses for their unmatched scratch resistance. The neutral gray ST-glass lenses transmit about 8% of visible light overall. Even this level is sometimes not dark enough when sunlight shines directly on my face. However for driving it's perfect. The HCL bronze version would be too bright for me for most uses. Maui Jim's neutral gray lenses preferentially transmit much more bright red colors (i.e. stop sign and traffic light reds) than other colors. See the transmission profile graphs I uploaded. This results in the bright red colors appear bright crimson and standing out even more than without the glasses on. It's a good safety feature for driving use. With the Maui Jim gray lenses, color saturation and contrast definitely appear enhanced. With neutral gray lenses from most other manufacturers, such as RayBan's G-15, the color saturation and contrast appear muted and muddied. The lenses on the Whaler are somewhat small and do not offer sufficient coverage to protect against glare from getting in from the top when the sun is at a high angle during the 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. time frame. But I willingly sacrifice a bit of protection for good looks. If the lenses were taller, the glare coming from the top would be eliminated, but the frame would lose its dashing look, at least for me.Maui Jim's website has a picture of the Whaler that has white silicone nose pads with the pad mounts coming from the bottom of the frame and pointing upwards. The black nose pad version has the mounts coming from the top portion of the frame and pointing downwards. I called Maui Jim's support number and was told that the black nose pad version is the current version and they no longer sell the white silicone version. Please note that the nose pad mounts are not made of Flexon memory metal, they do bend quite easily and will break from metal fatigue if you adjust them too much.I probably tried on 30 to 40 different styles from different brands before choosing the Maui Jim Whaler and it fits me perfectly. I paid the full retail price of $329 at a local sunglasses store in a mall, plus paying 8.5% sales tax. Has it been worth it? Absolutely. There is much to be said about being able to try on a pair of sunglasses in person that fits my particular face shape perfectly that I couldn't have done with mail order. One other very important thing to keep in mind is Maui Jim's warranty is valid only if the Maui Jim sunglasses are purchased from an authorized dealer. If you see a website offering a substantial discount from the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP), suspect that you may be buying gray market merchandise from an unauthorized dealer. You'll be out of luck if you need warranty service. This to me is reason enough to buy only from an authorized dealer even if I have to pay the full MSRP. Don't just take the seller's word that he's authorized! My Whaler comes with a 2-year warranty as stated on the literature accompanying the Whaler. One major downside with owning expensive sunglasses is that I find myself going great lengths to pamper them and that definitely takes some enjoyment away. The pampering counts as an intangible cost of ownership above and beyond the actual cash price I paid.

5The best sunglasses I've ever owned
By D. Cook
First, my eyes are very photosensitive so I wear my sunglasses often. I've gone through many pair of different styles, shapes, sizes, quality. Maui Jim lenses are the best in the business by far and I don't ever want to go without them again.I'm on my second pair of these because my first pair fell out of my coat (they were in a hard case) while I was walking through a parking lot and was promptly run over by a car as I was walking back toward them. I got them replaced with the exact same model. These are the perfect weight for me, just heavy enough that they never bounce around and light enough that they don't leave deep marks in my nose. The fit is excellent - flexible but still firm and comfortable. And other than being run over by a car...they can put up with quite a bit of reasonable abuse.I've handed these sunglasses to friends or co-workers outside so they can see what the clouds really look like - you can see depth in them like with no other glasses I've ever had. After wearing them every day for 3 years now this pair has only very minor blemishes, and still come very clean easily.Highly recommended sunglasses!-D

5Maui Jim's
By M. Lee
Needed a second pair that easily fit in my laptop bag and wanted different color as well. Perfect width at temple and bridge for those needing wider sunglasses without lenses being too far apart.
