Chinese-made checkers with junk marbles

Not very happy with this product. Marbles are poor quality, irregular sizes and shape, with some having defective glass flaws and the colors are not good. The red marbles are so dark they are hard to distiguish from the black marbles. The others are "wierd colors". Wooden playing board is good quality with evenly drilled recessessions for the marbles. It's only 12 inches wide but sturdy. The pouch provided to hold the marbles is stiff plastic and useless, as it can't be closed to retain the marbles. I put them in a Ziplock baggie. I do not recommend the product.After playing with this product a few times I must downgrade it. The spaces between the marbles are so small that for an adult to pick them up to move them is difficult, or impossible, without disturbing adjacent marbles. The poor quality marbles make it even more difficult to reliably pick up a marble with two fingers. It is obvious that a 12-inch board, however well made, will not effectively support standard size marbles. I haven't tried an 18-inch board yet, but will keep looking. Those two characteristics alone (board size and marble size/quality) make the product a non-starter. I do not recommend this product.

Very aesthetically pleasing game

I bought this as a birthday gift for a former woodworker when she turned 89. She loves playing this game partly because this particular version is so aesthetically pleasing. I agree. Both the wooden board and the glass marbles are very nice to touch as well as to look at. This makes the game especially nice for adults.I believe that children, too, would like it because of the marbles.

Quality of the game board--B+, pretty smooth, nicely finished, slight rough finish in few of the "dimples".Marbles--A, good colors, few with slightly noticeable size variance.It comes with a small fabric pouch, but you can't put the game board and the pouch w/marlbes back in the box without some struggle.Unlike those plastic sets, this will last a long long time. Great game for me and my 3-yr old.
