Background: Professional Full-time Bassist, 200+ shows per yearI play predominately classic rock, soul, pop, R&B, and country from the 50's to 90's through a Fender Am P-bass. I have tried several FX pedals. But the SansAmp is the ONLY FX that I use. However, it is not an FX box. It is a MASTER at creating the perfect TONE! Once you have that tone, you can put the FX you like in line. But if you want a built-in FX looper, get the Deluxe model.TONE: From an incredibly FULL and SMOOTH, PHAT and BEEFY bottom end, to bright, thin and crisp, clean or distorted, this thing can shape your tone to what you want. For a FULL, PHAT bottom end, I wouldn't recommend anything else!PROGRAMMING: When you want to change a setting from the current setting, the LED will blink when you turn a knob until you get that knob set at the current level. This lets you know where you're starting and how far you're adjusting. ONLY the knob you are turning will give an LED response. You can change as few or as many as you want. Then double click, and the new program is saved.CUSTOM PROGRAM CHARTS: It also comes with a very simple user manual that has several pages of predetermined programs as well as several pages of 'blank' settings charts for you to keep and maintain your own list of created programs. VERY HANDY!SUMMARY: The SansAmp will give you the ability to give almost any bass the tonal foundation you need to produce the sound you want. I don't even use FX with mine. Just the SansAmp through the house system.

I have already gotten great results playing live and as a direct box recording. The beautiful overtones and overall tone quality w/low noise and versatility matches the hype. Only had it a few days so we'll see how it does with battery life. Already finding the programmable switches useful.
