5A Wonderful Tool...
By Christopher D. Kahle
Though the price is high for a machete, this tool is worth every penny if you have the means. I used it the first day I received it, and having never used a Woodman's Pal before, I was able to clear my entire back yard (approx. 1/4 acre) of thorny brambles and small saplings within 30 minutes. It would easily have taken twice as long and resulted in much frustration and many scratches and thorn gouges with a regular machete. The genius of the design is in the sickle hook on the back of the blade. It not only cuts quite well itself, but brush and debris can be quickly and (most importantly) safely pulled out and thrown aside in one motion -- without bending over and grappling with your work (all the while holding a sharp blade in one hand if you haven't already dropped it in frustration). It makes the clearing of brush and saplings almost enjoyable and absolutely faster and safer. Attention to detail is an understatement when referring to the design of the Woodman's Pal. You'll know what I mean when you see one up close. From the blunted safety edges to the inward curve of the main blade to the bevel grind on the sickle edge, this is a "thinking mans" machete. It is very well made and nicely balanced so it's not tiresome to use. The leather-wrapped handle and "cutlass style" hand guard is a nice touch too, but like everything else on this blade, serves a purpose. The leather prevents slippage while the guard protects your hands and knuckles as well as secures the machete in your hand. It looks nice too. If you take it camping with you, don't be surprised if folks at the campground take notice.

3Woodman's Pal?

Great catalog for this item, very expensive but sounded great. Found it to be pretty ordinary. Doesn't cut brush anywhere nearly as well as portrayed. Should have bought the twenty dollar machete.
