Get it while you can - you'll never regret it

Without any doubt, this Victorinox Spirit Plus Ratchet Multi-Tool is the most magnificent product of this type I have ever encountered. I don't think there are many jobs you would need to do using a small tool that this won't be very suitable. One hundred and twenty US dollars (my cost) is not too much for this. You should be able to pass this down to someone in your family to introduce another generation to a quality tool.Amazon amazes me generally with the extreme care they take in packing items they ship to me. This is not a delicate item but nonetheless it was shipped in a small cardboard box with bubble wrap to keep it in place. Wow! And the Spirit Plus is in an attractive box with a multi-language, well-illustrated guide to its use.The guide, itself, is worth a comment. Dropped it in seawater? It shows the five areas to oil after cleaning and drying. Next, where to cut copper wire and where to cut hard wire. In case you have any doubt where anything mentioned is located, there are photographs of every item included with the tool using numbers and descriptions. Thorough!For a generation not used to using a knife to strip insulation from wire, there are several illustrations on the tool bit to use for that as well as for using the corkscrew and ratchet.When you open the individual blades (which is what I'll call each) there is a satisfying snap. The blades open easily because, as you will see, each has been oiled at the swivel point (the fastidious should roll up their white shirt and wipe the blades with a small, clean cloth). The blades are locked firmly in place which is a joy to those who remember damaged fingers or material using cheaper multi-tools without this feature. To close the blades, push back firmly on the lock release (number 27 on the chart) and press the blade back into the handle.The major blade has no point but just a serrated edge mostly with a small plain edge. The saw blade is wickedly sharp. The file blade has one medium and one fine side as well as a file on the narrow edge. These few large blades open easily - no broken fingernails from them. ALL the blades open easily, in fact. Amazon tells you what the other blades are so I won't go into them except to say they are works of art. Even the humble can opener blade is quite sharp. Looks like you might be able to use it to pop the pins when changing your watchband (if you like to do that sort of thing).Well, I said I wasn't going into the individual small blades, but the Phillips screwdriver blade is the most perfectly designed and manufactured tool of its type I have ever seen. Even my dedicated phillips screwdrivers aren't as good by half. If you reverse the little thingee held in the corkscrew, you have a really tiny flat head screwdriver for repairing your glasses or other delicate tasks.The case for the ratchet bits contains six bits with space for four more. The leather case for the entire outfit is well made and attractive with a belt loop on the back and individual holders for the major parts of the kit. It has a VICTORINOX badge with a velcro type closure tab. The two parts of the case are held together by four large rivets. The leather is a beautiful dull dark brown with orange stitching.I mention so much about this item because you might want to justify spending twice as much for this multi-tool as for some others. I say if you can afford it, buy it. It will pay for itself many times over in time. Think of the small tools you won't have to buy. And think of the raison d'être for the Spirit Plus Ratchet Multi-Tool - it's always with you when you need it.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
