Clear Auscultation, Lightweight, Floating Diaphragm

I was given one of these scopes by a buddy of mine when I started nursing school. I knew nothing about stethoscopes except that I needed one and this one was a freebie for me. But this turned out to be a great gift! This scope is sturdy (like all Welch Allyn medical instruments I've encountered) and auscultation is great - very clear. I have a Littmann Classic II S.E. which this scope is a direct competitor of (I bought it because everyone at school had a Littmann, so I figured they knew something I didn't). Side by side, this scope is a bit quieter then the Littmann, but only by a barely-noticeable amount. Where I feel it trumps the Classic II is with regards to clarity; heart and lung sounds are just clearer and crisper with this scope. The Littmann has a 'boomy' or 'muddy' quality to it by comparison. Littmann makes a great scope, but I think this one trumps it in that regard. Where the Littmann beats the Welch Allyn is the area of price. The Tycos Professional is a pricey little scope by comparison. Since I received this as a gift, I'm happy. I do not know if I would pay for the uptick in price if I was shopping for a new scope, however.
