5dont listen to these people!!
By Cindy M. Slama
i got this receiver about 4 months ago, and let me tell you, not once have i been disapointed. i know a lot about speakers and i know what sounds good, the remote is not bad (like what the privious person said) after about 2 days of use the remote was very easy to understand. and to rename the inputs.....it is not buried in the manual, it takes about 3 EASY steps to get where you need to be. i personaly didnt even need the manual. so do yourself a favor and get this receiver, you wont regret it. -jacob s.

4Owned for several years
By D.Man
For me this receiver is very easy to use has no HDMI so beware. The remote wore out wouldn't work anymore had to replace so I would recommend buying an extra one immediately since they could become scarce. I found a replacement remote for around $30. Over all I love this unit and highly recommend Yamaha Receivers over other brands. I also own a Pioneer vsx-819h and like this older Yamaha much better.

3Good Sound, Terrible Remote
By Vikram Kalyanaraman
This is an first impressions review:The receiver has good connectivity with enough component video, optical in, co-axial in and analog inputs. I am pretty proficient with audio/video equipment (quite a gadget geek), but setup took a while and was anything but intuitive. the optical and coax audio inputs are assignable and if you are using a connection setup different from the default, you have reassign your inputs. This reassign facility is buried deep in the Manual Setup Menu. The sound quality is excellent. I felt an immediate difference with the stero direct sound quality (CD as source) as compared to my Pioneer VSX-D812K. The sound appears to be fuller with a more spatial sound stage that the Pioneer. There is enough and more power in the surround mode for movie watching. The remote is another story altogether. Programming it is a pain; you have to use a ballpoint pen to activate the recessed code button. I programmed the TV, Cable box, DVD player and CD player, however, when I tried to use these later, at least one of these would not work properly; the user manual has no clear information on what devices can be controlled in what mode. This is major contrast to the Pioneer's remote which is useful, well laid out, intuitive and it just works. In summary, the sound it excellent, but the setup and remote are poor. I give it 3-stars overall. This receiver might be going back to the retailer and I might look at a Denon or something.
